Background Investigator

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is seeking a skilled Background Investigator to join their team on a part-time basis. As a Background Investigator, you will conduct thorough and complete background investigations, reviewing application documents and contacting applicants, personal references, and employment references. Your attention to detail and analytical skills will be essential in identifying strengths and weaknesses, making recommendations regarding suitability or disqualification for employment, and maintaining records on investigations and investigation activities.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive background investigations, reviewing application documents and contacting applicants, personal references, and employment references.
- Locate and review information regarding criminal history, police reports, school transcripts, credit reports, driving records, and other documentation available regarding applicant's history.
- Confer with managers, supervisors, or hiring decision-makers to discuss information obtained regarding job applicants under consideration.
- Conduct interviews, including discrepancy interviews, with applicants and/or personal and employment references to assess truthfulness and credibility of documentation or information collected.
- Write reports and written summaries of findings, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and making recommendations regarding suitability or disqualification for employment and access to security-sensitive facilities and systems.
- Respond to requests for information, assist outside agencies, and provide background information to these agencies when appropriate.
- Two (2) years of college or an Associate's Degree in criminal justice or other related field.
- Three (3) years of training and experience conducting backgrounds/investigations with local, state, or federal law enforcement agencies.
- Must successfully pass a drug screen and an extensive background investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office.
