Job Description

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Facility Engineering, this role performs complex marine project work on waterfront facilities and structures. The successful candidate will provide engineering expertise, including preliminary and final design, new construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and repairs of infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage small to large-scale, complex waterfront, marine structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering projects and programs.
  • Plan, assign, and review the work of consultants.
  • Develop project scope of work and structural design criteria.
  • Conduct field inspections, conditions surveys, assessments, background research, and feasibility studies.
  • Prepare engineering reports, task orders, work assignments, requests for proposals/bids, contracts, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Review consultant and contractor submittals.
  • Ensure consultant designs and contractor work conform to the scope of work, codes, and DOT standards.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration.
  • One year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects.
Preferred Skills
  • A valid New York State Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Expert knowledge of design codes and technical standards.
  • Knowledgeable in principles of design as related to the design of marine structures and systems.
  • Experience in contract management and cost estimating.
Additional Information

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week. New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
