Job Overview

Position Summary

As a Class A CDL Operator, you will be tasked with the transportation of various materials and equipment essential for our operations. This includes items such as pumps, machinery components, steel, fabricated plates, pipes, and both wheeled and tracked equipment using diverse truck and trailer configurations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive a range of trucks and trailers.
  • Connect and disconnect trailers by adjusting trailer jack positions, linking or unlinking air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
  • Conduct and record vehicle and equipment inspections at designated intervals to ensure all mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is functioning properly.
  • Report any vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damages.
  • Perform minor maintenance on trucks and trailers; coordinate further maintenance as necessary.
  • Gather delivery instructions from relevant sources, confirm details, and plan routes.
  • Verify the completeness and accuracy of all load-related documentation.
  • Maintain required logbooks as per DOT regulations.
  • Collect receipts and signatures for delivered items.
  • Safely load and secure all cargo or assist in the process.
  • Safely unload all cargo or assist in the process.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, dispatch, and management regarding schedules.
  • Utilize a smartphone to document time worked and other relevant parameters.
  • Primarily operate on day trips within the state, with occasional overnight travel as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Possession of a valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
  • A minimum of three years of direct hauling experience.
  • Eligibility for company insurance approval.
  • Fluency in reading and writing English.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Excellent active listening skills, demonstrating full attention to others and understanding their points.
  • Dependability and a high level of integrity.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

Additional Information

  • This is a non-exempt role.
  • Reports directly to the Plant Manager.
  • No direct reports associated with this position.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • This position is part-time with no fixed hours and includes regular on-call duties.
  • Must remain alert and capable of performing essential job functions safely.
  • Job duties may require standing, walking, sitting, using hands for handling objects, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; regular lifting of up to 50 pounds may be necessary.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Commitment to providing a safe and healthy work environment is paramount, and the workplace maintains a drug-free policy.
  • Must pass a post-offer/pre-placement DOT drug screening and undergo random drug testing post-hire, along with DOT pre-employment and annual physicals.
  • A background check verifying criminal history is also required.
