Shore Medical Center has been a leader in addressing the needs of the autism community for many years. The Educational Support Specialist works under the guidance of the Special Education Teacher and the Education Director. This role involves assisting in the execution of each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). The Educational Support Specialist engages students during instructional and non-instructional activities and ensures their safety while transitioning between various locations and activities. An energetic, enthusiastic, patient, and understanding demeanor is essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

The Educational Support Specialist is expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:
  • Effective Communication:
    • Engage professionally with:
      • Other educational staff
      • Parents/Caregivers
      • Supervisors
      • Students
  • Behavior Management:
    • Implement all Behavior Intervention Plans
    • Maintain a neutral tone when addressing behaviors
    • Comply with regulations regarding exclusion, seclusion, and restraint
    • Document required behavior data
  • IEP Implementation:
    • Assist in executing instructional plans created by professional staff
    • Support student learning by applying IEP adaptations and strategies
  • Student Engagement:
    • Encourage student participation during academic tasks
    • Facilitate student involvement in non-academic activities
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of relevant experience preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Demonstrated behavior management skills with the ability to redirect inappropriate behaviors effectively
  • Physical capability to lift up to 80 pounds
  • Successful completion of background checks and health assessments is required
