Complete Description:

The RF Engineer will be responsible for working with LMR radio systems, software, and programs. In addition, the RF Engineer will also be responsible for designing/testing radio code plugs, validating radio and system performance, and evaluating new communication devices.

The RF Engineer will perform technical work in the field of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and wireless communications system engineering, design, and implementation.

The engineer will be responsible for program review, compliance with licensing regulations, requirements gathering, design review, change management, and final acceptance of systems.

Duties will include RoIP system engineering and radio code plug design/programming. Furthermore, the engineer will conduct short and long-term planning to meet communications requirements.

The engineer will also be responsible for performing hardware/software analysis to provide comparative data of performance characteristics and suitability within the existing systems environment.


Day to Day Tasks:

  • Support Motorola subscriber radio update and tracking efforts
  • Develop agency code plugs
  • Support/complete agency programming requests
  • Manage/coordinate encryption and OTAR upgrades
  • Develop radio training material for internal and external users
  • Develop technical guidelines for radio use
  • Develop In-Building approval criteria for In-Building Wireless (IBW)
  • Review IBW proposals for compliance
  • Perform field surveys of new and existing BDA installations
  • Troubleshoot IBW network interference issues
  • Investigate IBW network coverage issues
  • Support OUC radio operations

Responsibilities:

  • Provides assessments of technical and operational practices based on leading industry standards specific to the requested technology.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts research in a variety of areas, such as new or existing products, science, social science, law, or business in support of an IT initiative.
  • Searches sources such as reference works, literature, documents, newspapers, statistical records, and other sources of information. May use Internet, Intranet, magazines, periodicals, journals, and other media to perform research.
  • Analyzes information and statistical data to prepare reports and studies for use by professionals

Skill:

  • Years as SME in complex enterprise-level projects. Required 11 Years
  • Master's degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience. Required
  • 5 years of experience working in a PSAP. Required 5 Years
  • 3 years of interoperable radio experience. Required 3 Years
  • 3 years of Land Mobile Radio experience. Required 3 Years
  • 3 years of radio network coverage and interference analysis experience. Required 3 Years
  • 3 years of experience with RF engineering tools including Wizard and drive test tools. Required 3 Years
  • 2 years of experience in developing fleet maps, code plugs, and programming radios for public safety. Required 3 Years
  • 3 years of experience managing Motorola User Configuration Manager. Required 3 Years
  • 3 years of experience in troubleshooting WS systems, including but not limited to cell, microwave, LMR, UHF, etc. Required 3 Years
  • 3 years of experience with public safety infrastructure. Required 3 Years
  • 3 years of experience with P25 radio network. Required 3 Years
  • 3 years of experience and knowledge of public safety communications and interoperability. Required 3 Years
  • 1 year of experience and knowledge with LTE and WIMax – Standard practices. Required 3 Years
  • 3 years of experience and knowledge of PSAP operations. Required 3 Years
  • 6 years of experience and knowledge of wireless communications - combination of theory and practice. Required 3 Years
