Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Health Unit Clerk/Nursing Assistant plays a crucial role in assisting healthcare professionals in delivering quality patient care. This position requires collaboration with medical staff and adherence to established protocols, ensuring a seamless operation within the healthcare setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage and prioritize daily tasks to maintain an efficient workflow in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  2. Perform clerical duties, including order processing and inventory management, to support clinical operations.
  3. Measure and record vital signs accurately, ensuring proper documentation in the electronic health record system.
  4. Adhere to safety protocols and universal precautions to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
  5. Direct complex situations to the appropriate personnel when necessary.
  6. Engage in quality assurance and safety initiatives to enhance patient care standards.
  7. Assist in maintaining adequate supplies and cleanliness of clinical areas.
  8. Communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding breaks and shift changes.
  9. Provide patient education and reassurance to enhance the patient experience.
  10. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Clinical Administrator or supervising physician, within the scope of practice.
  11. Commit to ongoing professional development through training and participation in staff meetings.
  12. Uphold patient confidentiality and privacy in all interactions.
  13. Ensure examination rooms are prepared and sanitized for incoming patients.
  14. Support phone operations as needed to facilitate communication within the clinic.
  15. Maintain awareness of potential hazards and follow safety protocols related to exposure to biological materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification as a medical or nursing assistant in Illinois.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent patient care and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Ability to uphold patient confidentiality and integrity in all matters.
  • Proficiency in computer usage is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Physical capability to assist in lifting and positioning patients as necessary.
