About the Role

The Sarasota County Government is seeking a highly skilled Code Enforcement Officer to join our Planning and Development Services Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for enforcing and investigating Federal, State, and County Ordinances, ensuring compliance with regulations and maintaining a clean, healthful, and aesthetically pleasing community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and enforce compliance with ordinances and codes, including property standards, building codes, and zoning regulations.
  • Determine legal descriptions and property owners from county records.
  • Maintain complaint records and input data into the computer tracking system.
  • Utilize contractors for abatement of violations.
  • Prepare and testify on cases for hearing before the Special Magistrate.
  • Compile case information for public records requests.
  • Recover illegal signs from the rights-of-way.
  • Participate in cross-training sessions with co-workers to address the comprehensive list of codes.
  • Work with citizens, civic associations, and homeowner's associations to maintain a clean, healthful, and aesthetically pleasing community.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of field enforcement experience involving interpreting, documenting, reporting, and/or correcting violations of regulatory codes or ordinances.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required at time of hire.
  • Must obtain FACE certification within one year of employment.

  • Competitive hourly rate: $23.33 - $24.15/hour, based on experience.
