Job Title: Project Systems Safety Engineer II

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety Specialist to join our team at North Wind Services. As a Project Systems Safety Engineer II, you will be responsible for developing and executing the safety and occupational health component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute assignments involving significant safety and health issues and risks, using judgment and experience in the application of scientific techniques and plans to reduce the potential for adverse impacts.
  • Integrate safety and health requirements into proposals, planning documents, design, construction, commissioning and startup, operations, schedules, procurement, and subcontract documents.
  • Provide input on bid decisions, proposal development, and estimates (scope, constraints, schedules, budgets) with respect to integration and compliance with safety and health requirements.
  • Interpret requirements and provide technical assistance within ES&H teams and to other project groups regarding risk and hazard assessment, plan preparation, and ES&H program execution.
  • Research issues and regulatory requirements, perform studies and risk assessments, and prepare documentation and reports.
  • Perform safety studies, risk assessments, and other safety and health reviews.
  • Draft and help implement the project Safety and Health Management Plan, associated plans and procedures, and training program.
  • Help establish emergency preparedness and perform incident investigations.
  • Help identify stakeholders and resolve their concerns.
  • Provide input to other project groups, so that safety and health requirements are integrated within project planning, design, construction plans, procurement, and subcontracts.
  • Participate in meetings, as required, with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of environmental, safety and health requirements.
  • Conduct inspections and monitoring to help evaluate ES&H performance, identify corrective actions, and confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and NWS requirements.
  • Develop safety and health communication through publications, flyers, posters, signs, banners, and other communication media.
  • Analyze data, tracks ES&H performance and trends, and prepares technical reports.
  • Support other ES&H team members and tasks associated with all three ES&H disciplines.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in safety, construction, industrial hygiene, life sciences, physical sciences, engineering or other related field from an accredited college or university and at least 3 years of relevant experience; or in lieu of degree, 9 years of progressive professional experience.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication and knowledge of computer applications.
  • Experience in safety compliance inspection/assessment during construction.
  • Specialized knowledge in a safety specialty (e.g., Personal Protective Equipment, lockout/tagout, fall protection, excavation, People-Based Safety) or engineering (e.g., civil, process safety, mechanical) or related disciplines.
  • Knowledge of safety management, monitoring programs, principles, and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of safety and health laws and regulations and applicable agencies' permitting processes and responsibilities. Knowledge of engineering, construction, and subcontract work processes.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience working under USACE EM

Desired Skills:

  • 40hour USACE EM385 training.
  • 30 hour OSHA certification.
  • Five years of consecutive experience in construction safety.
  • Thirdparty certification in confined space safety; work at heights/fall protection, hazardous materials/IH or other related ES&H specialty.
  • First aid/AED training and certification.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to complete and pass a preemployment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
