Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Fire Safety Compliance Engineer to lead and manage our fire protection initiatives, ensuring adherence to life safety, building, and fire code regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance on International Code Council (ICC) model codes, including IBC, IFC, and IMC, along with NFPA Standards.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for fire protection-related regulatory, licensing, and insurance requirements, offering interpretive guidance on applicable standards.
  • Oversee project management tasks related to planning and design, including engineering concepts, distribution plans, riser diagrams, detail drawings, schedules, specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Lead the implementation of NRC Inspection Procedures 88054 and 88055 pertaining to Fire Protection.
  • Manage fire hazard analysis programs as defined by the NRC and NFPA 801, ensuring compliance with OSHA, insurance, building codes, and NFPA requirements.
Daily Activities

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining and enhancing facility fire safety procedures to ensure usability by employees, alignment with industry best practices, and compliance with regulatory requirements while fostering a Safety Conscious Work Environment (SCWE) and a robust Nuclear Safety Culture.
  • Conducting training related to facility fire safety procedures.
  • Managing Fire Safety Significant Controls and ensuring their integration with other safety disciplines, such as nuclear criticality safety and emergency preparedness.
  • Overseeing the Fire Hazards Analysis (FHA) Document.
  • Participating in internal and external audits of Fire Safety programs, including those conducted by regulatory bodies and insurance carriers.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with coursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics from an ABET accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a technical fire protection design or consulting role focused on fire protection systems and programs.
  • Proven knowledge of Fire Safety Management Systems, Risk Management processes, and Audit/Assessment Processes, including NRC Inspection Procedures 88054 and 88055.
  • Experience with Fire Safety Suppression and Detection systems.
  • Strong communication and writing skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Technical expertise in fire protection design and testing, with international project experience.
  • Licensure as a professional engineer in the fire protection discipline or a master's degree in fire protection engineering from an ABET accredited program.
