Patient Care Companion

The Observation Support Specialist observes patients under the close supervision and direction of the registered nurse. The role is crucial in providing a safe environment for patients and ensuring their well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reports on/off duty to the registered nurse assigned to care for the patient.
- Receives specific observation guidelines from the registered nurse for each patient, shift, and assignment.
- Provides a safe environment for the patient, under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Remains with the patient at all times as directed by the registered nurse.
- Identifies themselves to the patient and/or family members or significant others.
- Provides continual observation and monitoring of the patient.
- Reports behavior changes and patient requests to the patient care provider or registered nurse.
- Does not leave the patient unattended, even while reporting observations.
- Accompanies the patient to/from and during tests or treatments.
- May assist the patient with setting up meals and fluids (only if no known swallowing deficiencies).
- Maintains the patient room in a neat and orderly manner.
- Provides a safe environment for the patient, under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Provides constant observation of the patient as directed by the registered nurse.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
- Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time.
- Stand for up to 10 hours per day; 8 hours at a time.
- Walk 6 hours per day; 15 minutes at a time.
- Consistently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally lift, carry, and push objects up to 75 pounds.
- Transport patients weighing up to 250 pounds via wheelchair, bed, and/or stretcher.
- Frequently stoop and bend.
- Frequently reach above shoulder level.
- Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch.
- Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high/low frequencies.
- Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision.
Education:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
Training and Experience:
- Must complete mandatory education and competencies required for the position.
Work Schedule:
- 3 Nights a week (24 hours)
- (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Holiday/Weekend Rotation.
