Position Overview

The Regional Freight Transport Operator is tasked with the safe and efficient operation of diesel-powered tractor-trailers to transport and deliver goods or materials in packaged or palletized formats to and from client locations over local and regional distances, adhering to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and company policies. This role involves unloading pallets at customer sites, repositioning trailers, and engaging with clients and sales teams while ensuring top-notch service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute pre-shift activities to ensure a productive workday; review schedules, check equipment, and confirm supplies necessary for the job, including load accuracy, and prepare for operations.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of the truck and trailers to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Operate the tractor-trailer safely and legally at all times, adhering to all applicable laws and company policies. Complete necessary paperwork related to freight, securing required signatures and documentation for cargo pick-up and delivery.
  • Plan trips effectively using maps, GPS, and other information to ensure timely and legal pick-up and delivery, maintaining an electronic log to record daily hours of service in accordance with FMCSA, state, and company requirements. Load and secure cargo to prevent movement and damage during transport.
  • Read and comprehend trip-related information to plan effectively; load and unload freight at customer locations using electric pallet jacks or manually, while fostering relationships with team members and store personnel to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Perform post-shift activities, including coupling and uncoupling trucks from trailers, adjusting tandems as necessary, and safely climbing on and off the vehicle. Refuel the truck, secure all equipment, and complete required documentation.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English as it pertains to this role and FMCSA regulations.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid FMCSA physical certification with Interstate non-excepted classification within 60 days of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Class A CDL (Commercial Driver's License) for Interstate driving within 60 days of employment.
  • Preferred: Two (2) years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience.
  • Preferred: Sales experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Competent in using a pallet jack.
  • Must be able to operate loading gear and manage cargo doors safely.
  • Capable of reading and understanding trip-related information and planning accordingly.
  • Hand-held device also serves as a cell phone.
  • Willingness to work varying shifts, including overnight and early morning.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge gained through 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record; CDL required; Hazmat Certification where applicable.
