About the Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled executive to lead our Materials business in the Midwest region. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for driving sales, production, and strategic growth initiatives to achieve business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion a culture of safety excellence and lead by example to ensure safe performance and compliance.
  • Provide vision, direction, and strategies necessary to lead the business, ensuring alignment with the overall business strategy of the Midwest Region and Heidelberg Materials organization.
  • Develop, implement, and measure performance results on a regular basis, taking corrective action as required to achieve business goals and objectives.
  • Lead, guide, and develop the management team to achieve business goals, grow profitability, and expand the customer base.
  • Maintain awareness of market conditions and adjust strategies and tactics as needed to achieve results.
  • Oversee capital budgets, operating budgets, and operating costs, responsible for reviewing and approving all capital expenditures.
  • Participate in systems analysis and identify areas for cost reductions and improved customer experience.
  • Work closely with centralized support functions to identify continuous improvement opportunities and implement cost savings measures.
  • Direct the sales activities and marketing strategies to drive business growth.
  • Build direct relationships with key customers and participate in industry and community organizations to facilitate recognition and reputation of the company.
  • Serve as the liaison between sales and operations for optimal coordination.
  • Ensure talent management and acquisition strategies are in place to provide optimal staffing and performance for the business unit and company.
  • Confirm compliance with applicable laws, regulations, permits, and Group guidelines in the area of responsibility.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction industry, with experience in multiple product lines preferable, including aggregates.
  • Underground mining experience is a plus.
  • 7-10 years of experience in progressively responsible positions in sales, operations, or engineering, with a demonstrated safety record.
  • Prior leadership experience is required, with experience in a union environment desirable.
  • Solid understanding of both operations and sales functions.
  • In-depth understanding of the financial aspects of a business, including P&L statements, EVA, and budgets, including understanding of the justification process for projects.
  • Significant market pricing knowledge and cost awareness.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and cross-functional departments.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including MS Office Suite of products.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate others to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions based on sound business reasoning.
  • Ability to manage changing situations effectively.
