Clinical Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy outpatient team. The ideal candidate will have exceptional internal medicine skills and oncology experience, with a strong ability to work with a multidisciplinary team to provide direct patient care services.
Key Responsibilities- Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
- Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations.
- Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post-treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, and treatment toxicities.
- Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgment, including prescribing appropriate medications.
- Chart patient progress, maintaining detailed and accurate health records.
- Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection.
- Communicate effectively among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care.
- Collaborate, support, and build strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.
- Participate in the education of patients, family members, new staff, students, and other learners.
- Perform procedures, including bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, Ommaya access, and punch skin biopsies.
- Attend program-required meetings.
- Maintain up-to-date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
- Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics, and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
- Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented clinic.
- Willingness to be flexible and available to support the team.
- Analytical thinking skills with curiosity and ability to investigate and diagnose.
- Competence with technology.
- Excellent communication skills and customer service skills.
- Experience working independently and as a part of a team.
- The desire and willingness to continue to learn.
- Nurse Practitioners: Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
- Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, with a Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
- Physician Assistant Certification.
- Nurse Practitioner Licensure and Certification.
- Licensed in the State of North Carolina.
- BLS required.
- ACLS preferred.
- 1+ years of APP experience strongly preferred.
Monday-Friday, day shift 8a-5p, with flexibility to meet clinic needs.
