Junior Accountant Job Description

Southwestern Law School is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Junior Accountant to join our accounting team. As a key member of our financial operations team, you will be responsible for assisting with month-end financial reporting procedures and related analyses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly recurring journal entries and reconciliations, and analyze various accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Work with Department Heads and their liaisons to reconcile credit card transactions and investigate significant variances against approved budgets.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Aid department to prepare monthly reconciliations of payroll reporting relating to federal work-study programs.
  • Maintain financial schedules and accounting entries related to fixed assets and work-in-progress general ledger accounts.
  • Update account structures to ensure accurate mapping of general ledger and financial reports.
  • Assist in annual year-end financial audit by preparing various audit analyses requested by external auditors.
  • Support the Controller and CFO on special ad-hoc projects as needed.
Requirements:
  • Advanced Excel skills and understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting specific to non-profit organizations.
  • Analytical skills to interpret financial data and prepare reports.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail in financial record-keeping and reporting.
  • Effective communication skills to convey financial information to non-financial staff and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the finance team and different departments within the organization.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and working knowledge of non-profit accounting.
Pay and Benefits:
