POSITION SUMMARY


The Asset Reliability Specialist is responsible for overseeing and assessing the performance and condition of power system assets to align with the corporate asset management strategy, ensuring that essential investments are made to uphold long-term reliability.

This role involves analyzing and reporting on reliability and performance metrics, identifying solutions to address reliability and performance challenges. The specialist stays updated on emerging asset management methodologies and equipment monitoring technologies utilized by peer utilities. Recommendations for enhancements to maintenance practices are made, and the long-term maintenance program documentation for Hoosier Energy assets is maintained. The position may require serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and representing Hoosier Energy in industry peer groups.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and evaluate outage data to identify root causes of significant incidents.
  • Act as a liaison to member systems and neighboring utility personnel, providing regular updates on reliability metrics.
  • Collaborate with internal and external experts and stakeholders to devise strategies addressing reliability concerns.
  • Review and enhance reporting and communication methods and procedures.
  • Actively engage in NATF, EPRI, IEEE, and other peer groups.
  • Support compliance efforts to meet NERC/RRO standards as needed.
  • Represent Hoosier Energy as a Subject Matter Expert during NERC/RRO audits.
  • Investigate inspection and maintenance practices of peer utilities and trade organizations, recommending improvements when applicable.
  • Propose plans, projects, or procedures aimed at enhancing reliability, ensuring compliance, and/or reducing costs.
  • Submit project proposals for budget and work plan inclusion.
  • Maintain Hoosier Energy's asset and maintenance management systems, capturing work detailed in maintenance programs with IT support as necessary.
  • Develop processes and procedures to keep asset and maintenance activity records current. Explore and assess process improvements for data capture.
  • Monitor equipment performance and engage in long-term maintenance planning. Analyze and assess work order trends for long-term implications. Evaluate remaining equipment life, failure probabilities, and associated risk assessments to formulate contingency plans and alternative solutions.
  • Create a long-term optimized strategy for operations asset replacements and/or repairs based on relevant economic and risk factors.
  • Develop and maintain analytical tools (e.g., models and databases) according to established quality standards to support decision-making.
  • Research industry equipment challenges and assess potential impacts on power system assets.
  • Participate in all areas of responsibility to ensure the achievement of corporate objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field, combined with experience sufficient to understand the operation of electric utility systems and conduct technical analyses and assessments.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in the electric utility/power industry.
  • Preferred experience includes five years in maintenance or planning within the electrical utility sector.

  • Capable of completing tasks punctually and maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to identify, anticipate, and resolve issues.
  • Advanced computer and technological proficiency.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the power industry, including the construction, maintenance, and operation of generation systems, high voltage transmission lines, substations, metering, relays, and communication systems.
  • Understanding of processes and procedures influenced by generation, transmission, and distribution system reliability and performance.
  • Demonstrated expertise in database and spreadsheet management.
  • A valid Indiana driver's license is required.
