Position Summary:

The Buyer plays a crucial role in the procurement of MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) materials, equipment, supplies, and services. This position adheres to established purchasing guidelines and protocols. Responsibilities include reviewing purchase requisitions, analyzing needs, identifying reliable suppliers, preparing bid specifications, soliciting bids, evaluating proposals, and facilitating communication between departments and vendors. The Buyer also manages storeroom operations, which encompass receiving materials, inventory management, cycle counting, and point-of-use replenishment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and analyze departmental purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Engage with departments to clarify requisition details as necessary.
  • Determine the most effective method for processing requisitions based on various factors, including dollar amount and existing contracts.
  • Select vendors based on criteria such as pricing, quality, and delivery timelines, and place orders accordingly.
  • Maintain knowledge of purchasing practices, procedures, and market trends relevant to the area of specialization.
  • Prepare and assess complex technical specifications and bids.
  • Create and review purchase orders for accuracy.
  • Address accounts payable issues and manage purchasing data entry and retrieval.
  • Assist both internal and external customers by responding to inquiries verbally and in writing.
  • Provide customer service within the storeroom, fulfilling orders based on customer requirements.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds.
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods.
