Organization Overview: The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) serves as the principal advocate for the largest publicly owned metropolitan water systems in the United States, focusing on federal water policy matters. Position Summary: AMWA is in search of a Senior Manager of Regulatory Programs who will be pivotal in nurturing the organization's connections with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other federal regulatory bodies that influence drinking water utilities. This role is integral to a team that oversees a range of regulatory and scientific matters pertinent to drinking water systems and will play a key role in formulating AMWA's responses to federal regulatory initiatives under the Safe Drinking Water Act and related legislation. Reporting directly to the Chief Advocacy Officer, the incumbent will provide strategic insights on regulatory policy development and collaborate with AMWA's team to advance the organization's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Advocacy and Public Policy: Act as the representative of AMWA in discussions with federal agency staff and other stakeholders. Collaborate to achieve common policy goals, build political support for AMWA initiatives, and prepare or review formal correspondence and comments as necessary.
  2. Regulatory Oversight: Maintain a thorough understanding of current and forthcoming regulations and emerging issues, ensuring timely communication of analyses regarding their significance and impact to colleagues and members.
  3. Member Engagement: Keep AMWA members informed about the latest developments in water policy and AMWA activities through regular contributions to newsletters and briefings.
  4. Networking: Cultivate and maintain a robust network of contacts within the U.S. EPA, AMWA members, and relevant external organizations to discuss regulatory proposals and share member perspectives.
  5. Content Creation: Write and edit articles for AMWA publications and produce content for member updates, Board meeting materials, and annual reports.

Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Arts or Science is required.

Experience: A minimum of 5-8 years of experience in public policy is essential.

Skills and Competencies:

  1. In-depth knowledge of regulatory processes and the ability to influence public policy.
  2. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Capability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships.
  4. Strong comprehension of the drinking water regulatory environment.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

All AMWA personnel are expected to work in the D.C. office at least two days each week.
