Position Summary: AMWA is in search of a Senior Manager of Regulatory Programs who will play a crucial role in managing the organization's interactions with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other federal regulatory bodies that influence drinking water utilities. This position is integral to a team addressing a range of regulatory and scientific challenges pertinent to drinking water systems and will aid in formulating AMWA's responses to federal regulatory initiatives under the Safe Drinking Water Act and other relevant legislation. Reporting directly to the Chief Advocacy Officer, this role will provide strategic insights into regulatory policy development and collaborate with AMWA's team to achieve the organization's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Advocacy and Public Policy: Serve as the association's representative in discussions with federal agency staff and other stakeholders. Work collaboratively to advance shared policy goals, garner political support for AMWA initiatives, and prepare or review formal correspondence and comments as necessary.
  2. Regulatory Oversight: Maintain a thorough understanding of current and forthcoming regulations and emerging issues, ensuring timely dissemination of analyses regarding their significance and impact to colleagues and members.
  3. Member Engagement: Keep AMWA members informed about the latest developments in water policy and AMWA activities through regular contributions to newsletters and briefings.
  4. Networking: Cultivate and maintain a robust network of contacts within the U.S. EPA, AMWA members, and relevant external organizations to discuss regulatory proposals and share insights from AMWA members.
  5. Content Creation: Write and edit articles for AMWA publications and develop content for member updates, Board meeting materials, and annual reports.
Qualifications:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Arts or Science is required.

Experience: A minimum of 5-8 years of experience in public policy is essential.

Skills and Competencies:
  1. Proven knowledge of regulatory processes and the ability to influence public policy.
  2. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to build and maintain professional relationships effectively.
  4. Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape concerning drinking water.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

All AMWA staff are expected to work in the D.C. office a minimum of two days per week.
