- Process Dental Instruments: Safely and efficiently process dental instruments and patient care items through the sterilization process.
- Maintain Sterilization Equipment: Follow manufacturer guidelines and intervals to maintain sterilization equipment and ensure optimal performance.
- Turn Over Operatories: Transport dirty instruments to the sterilization area for processing and set up treatment rooms for the next patient procedure.
- Assist with Supply Ordering: Assist with ordering clinical supplies to ensure adequate inventory levels.
- Prepare Hygiene Rooms: Prepare hygiene rooms, including setup, decontamination, sterilization of instruments, cleaning handpieces, and restocking supplies.
- Support Clinical Staff: Assist dental assistants, dentists, and front desk staff as needed to ensure seamless operations.
- Adhere to Enhanced Infection Control Protocols: Adhere to enhanced infection control protocols and PPE requirements to reduce transmission of infections.
- Disinfect as Required: Disinfect as required by OSHA and state regulations to maintain a safe environment.
- Offer Support to Front Office: Offer assistance to the front office during downtime to ensure efficient operations.
- Perform Basic Procedures: Perform basic independent procedures, such as equipment sterilization and disposal of materials, as delegated and directed by the dentist.
- Chart Patient Records: Chart patient records as necessary to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
- Maintain Department Compliance: Maintain all Dental Department areas in compliance with Dental Department directives and protocols, as well as center policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control, and safety issues.
- Inventory Control: Maintain adequate operatory supplies and compile a list of individual item shortages for inventory control and ordering purposes.
- Follow Established Regulations: Follow established regulations and professional standards as required of the position, and participate in and support continuous quality improvement.
- Interpret as Necessary: If bilingual, interpret as necessary to ensure effective communication with patients and staff.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience as a Sterilization Technician: Experience as a sterilization technician in the dental setting is preferred.
The Sterilization Specialist will work in a fast-paced dental clinic environment, requiring the ability to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours. The employee will frequently be exposed to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
