Position Overview

The role of Software Licensing Specialist is pivotal in managing the software asset lifecycle, focusing on the financial, physical, licensing, and contractual dimensions of software assets. This function is integral to Verisk's IT asset management strategy, aiming to establish a reliable account of software asset expenditures and associated risks, thereby supporting software strategy, architecture, service management, and procurement decisions.

Key Responsibilities

The Software Licensing Specialist will be tasked with:
  • Collaborating with the software asset manager to promote awareness of software asset management (SAM) policies and procedures throughout the organization by engaging and educating stakeholders.
  • Creating and distributing SAM reports to track compliance, liabilities, and budgetary metrics.
  • Overseeing the software asset database, ensuring accurate input, updates, and maintenance of software asset relationships, particularly concerning entitlements and procurement.
  • Managing software requests, including validating request details and updating tracking information.
  • Coordinating with procurement, compliance, and legal teams to evaluate and review new software requests.
  • Analyzing exception data to pinpoint potential policy violations and their underlying causes; investigating license compliance matters and proposing remediation strategies.
  • Administering assigned publisher portals, ensuring proper registration and allocation of licenses to users, and addressing user inquiries regarding license management.
  • Monitoring standard software requests to identify workflow issues and communicating with users to expedite purchase approvals.
  • Evaluating shelfware, support options, and optimal license usage practices to uncover potential cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assisting the software asset manager in preparing and delivering operational reviews and performance summaries related to SAM for business unit stakeholders.
  • Addressing inquiries from the business regarding software usage, deployment, and license availability for designated publishers, and aiding in data collection for external license reviews and audits.

Work Environment

The Software Licensing Specialist will not have direct reports and is expected to work during standard business hours, with occasional additional hours as necessary.

Education and Experience

Education:
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in PC applications, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Certification from a recognized IT or IT asset management organization is preferred, along with 2 years of relevant experience in IT, ITAM, SAM, or a related field.
