Position: Service Technician for Packaging Systems

Department: Operations

Reports To: Operations Manager

Employment Status: Full-time Non-exempt

This role involves working with a variety of machinery and systems supplied by Point Five Packaging, as well as third-party equipment that utilizes consumable products provided by the company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include:

  • Acquainting oneself with all machinery and emerging technologies offered by Point Five.
  • Executing final quality assurance checks on all sold and demonstration machines at production facilities to ensure compliance with sales specifications before dispatch.
  • Engaging in customer factory acceptance tests.
  • Reviewing and preparing user manuals, parts lists, and engineering documentation for clarity and accuracy prior to shipment.
  • Installing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining Point Five machines and systems, including third-party brands.
  • Diagnosing and resolving operational issues related to Point Five and third-party machinery at customer sites.
  • Providing training to customers and internal staff on the proper setup, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
  • Implementing mechanical and electrical modifications as directed by engineering teams.
  • Submitting detailed reports on installations, warranty repairs, performance levels, and opportunities for product enhancement.
  • Maintaining daily communication with the Technical Service office to keep management informed of job progress and any arising issues.
  • Collaborating professionally with the sales team and internal personnel.
  • Upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in all customer interactions.
  • Building strong relationships with customers to enhance satisfaction levels.
  • Identifying opportunities to promote and sell aftermarket parts and services.
  • Timely submission of expense and time reports.
  • Traveling extensively, both domestically and internationally, as required.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

This position necessitates significant travel, including weekends and potential after-hours support. Candidates must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and a U.S. passport.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

A minimum of a high school diploma and five years of experience in repairing and troubleshooting packaging equipment, particularly in the food sector, is required. Familiarity with food industry regulations such as USDA, FDA, HAACP, and SQF is essential. Extensive electrical and mechanical knowledge is necessary, and an AAS or BS in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields is preferred.

SKILLS

Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components is essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to disassemble and reassemble complex systems competently. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required. Experience with PLC and HMI programming is advantageous.
