Job Title: Benefit Self Reliance Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Benefit Self Reliance Specialist to join our team at the Idaho Division of Human Resources. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for reviewing and determining eligibility for various benefits and services, providing exceptional customer service, and working with families to help them achieve self-reliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and determine eligibility for benefits and services, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Child Care, cash assistance, and Health Care Assistance Programs.
  • Provide direct customer service via telephone and/or mail, ensuring a positive and empathetic experience for our customers.
  • Work with families to help them find self-reliance, providing guidance and support to achieve their goals.
  • Manage a workload with conflicting priorities, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks.
  • Enter and retrieve data using a computerized records system, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.

Requirements:

  • At least six months of experience conducting and documenting sensitive fact-finding interviews, or completion of some college courses in a human services field.
  • Experience dealing with individuals in stressful situations from varying cultural/socioeconomic backgrounds and de-escalating emotionally charged situations.
  • Experience applying written policies and criteria to determine qualifications for services or benefits.
  • Experience managing a workload with conflicting priorities and entering and retrieving data using a computerized records system.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, with the ability to pass both a verbal and written test in both languages.
