CNC Machinist Job Description

At Precision Castparts Corp, we are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our team. As a CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating computer numerical control lathes, mills, and machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specification under moderate supervision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate CNC Machines: Perform basic operation of equipment to produce to rate and meet quality standards.
  • Material Handling: Load material into machine and unload parts after operation.
  • Machine Maintenance: Monitor and remove metal chips from tools and equipment and dispose of them in the proper container.
  • Quality Control: Monitor machine condition and report any unusual noises or occurrences to supervisor or lead.
  • Tool Maintenance: Monitor cutting conditions and alert lead or supervisor if tools are not cutting properly.
  • Housekeeping: Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and orderly workstation and perform basic machine upkeep, such as wiping down outside surface of machine, lubrication, etc.
  • Deburring and Sanding: May hand deburr or sand parts, as needed.
Requirements:
  • Experience: At least 1 year related CNC lathe or mill experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Education: Ability to read blueprints.
  • Skills: Ability to use hand tools and measuring instruments.
  • Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Math Skills: Ability to write routine data on routers and SPC charts.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to use math skills to solve problems.
  • Common Sense: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Problem Analysis: Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
