Research Scientist in Extremity Trauma

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing military medicine. We collaborate with military, medical, academic, and government entities to manage and support leading scientific initiatives that benefit both service members and civilians. Established in 1983, HJF has played a crucial role in connecting the military medical community with federal and private partners. Our support and administrative services empower military medical researchers and clinicians to focus on their scientific endeavors and achieve their research objectives.
HJF is looking for a dedicated Research Scientist to contribute to the Extremity Trauma & Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE). HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support to the EACE, which is at the forefront of research and treatment for service members and veterans facing extremity trauma and amputation. The Research Scientist will engage in collaborative and multidisciplinary research projects aimed at understanding long-term outcomes following extremity injuries, particularly focusing on human-device interaction and musculoskeletal health.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, development, and execution of clinical research protocols.
- Conduct laboratory research utilizing advanced devices such as force platforms, motion capture systems, instrumented treadmills, electromyography, respirometry, and wearable technologies.
- Educate potential participants about research protocols, assess eligibility, and evaluate their commitment to the study.
- Prepare data for presentations at scientific conferences and for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor, including participation in required training sessions.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ideal candidates will possess a PhD in an engineering discipline or a closely related field. Experience in prosthetics and orthotics, human movement analysis, wearable technology, and modeling & simulation is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift materials weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Capability to remain seated or standing at a computer for extended periods.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering (or a related field).
- 0-5 years of relevant experience preferred.
Work Environment:
- This role primarily takes place in a laboratory setting.
