Job Summary

This position is responsible for ensuring the security and safety of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department facilities. The Security Officer III will be responsible for monitoring and patrolling the grounds, checking employees and visitors in and out of the facility, and inspecting and safeguarding buildings, properties, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and patrol the facility grounds to ensure the security and safety of employees, visitors, and assets.
  • Check employees and visitors in and out of the facility, verifying their identity and authorization.
  • Inspect and safeguard buildings, properties, and equipment to prevent unauthorized access or damage.
  • Monitor and respond to emergency situations, including fires, medical emergencies, and security breaches.
  • Collaborate with facility staff to meet established objectives and goals, sharing information and identifying concerns and trends.
  • Identify, report, and respond to incidents of unauthorized entry, malicious mischief, or other security violations.
  • Perform a variety of related duties as needed, including training and mentoring other security personnel.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Level II or III security guard license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (preferred).
  • Military police experience (preferred).
  • Military experience (preferred).
  • Experience in the use of firearms (preferred).
Working Conditions

The Security Officer III will work in a fast-paced environment, often under pressure to respond to emergency situations. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The Security Officer III may be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week and be on-call.
