The Opportunity

As a key member of the Accounting Operations – Reconciliation Team at MassMutual, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. Your expertise in financial reconciliation and analysis will enable you to identify and resolve variances, drive process improvements, and contribute to the development of business intelligence solutions. The Team

The Accounting Operations – Reconciliation team is a dynamic and collaborative group of accounting professionals who share a passion for delivering high-quality financial reporting. Our team is responsible for month-end and quarter-close processes, including balance sheet reconciliations and financial statement preparation. We pride ourselves on our agility, reliability, and commitment to continuous improvement, and we are seeking a talented individual to join our team.

The Impact:

As a member of our team, you will have a significant impact on the financial reporting process, driving efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Executing monthly close responsibilities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and controls.
  • Partnering with business operational areas to resolve variances and understand the risk and impact on financial statements.
  • Developing and implementing business intelligence solutions to drive process improvements and enhance financial reporting.
  • Analyzing trends and results, using strong business acumen and communication skills to contribute to commentary and enable readers to quickly understand impacts to their respective areas.
  • Identifying and implementing accounting or business operational improvements that increase business value and efficiency.
  • Responding to inquiries and requests from internal and external auditors.
  • Developing, documenting, and ensuring adherence to an internal control framework that ensures accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Complying with Sarbanes-Oxley (FRR) standards and initiatives.
  • Collaborating with business partners and customers to drive results and improve processes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business management, economics, finance, math, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of one or more of the following types of products and services: life insurance, annuities, worksite voluntary benefits, and/or institutional solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, prioritization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in agile project management.
  • Experience working with accounting, business intelligence, and ERP tools (SAP, Cadency, Power BI, Alteryx, etc.).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, specifically in Excel and Access.
  • Ability to consistently prioritize and effectively manage a workload, make independent decisions, and work autonomously.
  • Ability to perform independent research and serve as a key resource for resolution of unique or complex business problems.
  • Ability to effectively analyze data and identify and articulate actionable trends.
