Position Overview

Title: Housing Stabilization Specialist

Department: Philadelphia Social Service Ministries - New Day

Availability: Immediate

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM

Reporting To: NDNH Manager

Compensation: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour; Non-Exempt

Role Responsibilities

The Housing Stabilization Specialist is dedicated to enhancing housing stability for clients, focusing on actionable steps to ensure sustainable living conditions. This role involves:

  • Conducting monthly meetings with residents to create personalized self-sufficiency plans addressing vocational, educational, and housing objectives.
  • Identifying and addressing barriers to housing sustainability.
  • Facilitating skill-building activities such as resume writing, career assessments, and mock interviews.
  • Connecting clients with educational and training opportunities, as well as essential services like behavioral health, legal aid, and childcare.
  • Leading monthly group sessions on relevant topics and fostering community partnerships with employers and service providers.
  • Building a robust network within the community to assist residents in finding stable housing solutions.
  • Conducting property visits and inspections to support clients with housing-related challenges.
  • Participating in weekly clinical meetings and biweekly team discussions.

Funding Note

This position is grant-funded and is contingent upon the continuation of financial support.

Qualifications

As a Mandated Reporter, candidates must provide proof of training in recognizing and reporting child abuse, in compliance with PA Act 153 of 2014, within 30 days of employment. Candidates must also meet the Child Protection Clearances mandated by PA Act 153, including:

  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance
  • PA State Police Criminal Record Check
  • FBI Criminal Record Check

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling.
  • Prior experience in residential, social service, or customer service roles.
  • Experience in educational and vocational advising, as well as resource development.
  • Proficiency in networking and collaborating with community organizations.
  • Familiarity with housing programs and relationships with landlords.
  • Experience in leading group sessions and training.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with strong internet skills.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for site visits.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army.
