Job Summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Oncology Specialist to join our team. As an Associate Professor, you will be responsible for providing expert clinical care to patients with gastrointestinal cancers, participating in translational and/or clinical research, and participating in the teaching and training of fellows, residents, and students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner, adhering to standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, while balancing academic activities.
  • Develop and maintain a clinical practice for patients referred to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, providing physician staffing and consulting services as needed.
  • Visually review and approve all charge documents within four working days, ensuring accurate ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Complete patient documentation for medical records within institutional time frames, requiring clear and concise dictation and visual review.
  • Correspond with physicians regarding patient care and treatment, keeping abreast of current approaches in patient management through continuing education conferences.
  • Share clinical responsibilities with other faculty, including inpatient service, outpatient clinic, and procedures, as well as requesting consultations and participating in peer review.
  • Participate in quality improvement and institutional effectiveness projects, serving on institutional and hospital committees as requested.
  • Represent the Department by participating or presenting at local, regional, state, and national meetings in the field of medical oncology.
  • Actively engage in clinical and translational research, developing research programs and scholarly activities to enhance the academic environment of the department.
  • Identify grants and funding sources, submit grants and protocols, and develop budgets and analysis for grant and protocol application forms.
  • Act as a role model for faculty, fellows, residents, and students, providing a balanced and integrated educational program for residents and fellows.
  • Supervise trainees during clinical rotations, including doctoral and/or master's degree students, postdoctoral research fellows, clinical residents or fellows, visiting scientists, etc.
  • Participate in external or extramural service, including external research committees, collaborative research activities, conferences, professional society activities, study sections, staff meetings, etc.
Requirements
  • Doctorate level degree in a field appropriate for faculty role and department mission.
  • Five (5) years experience as Assistant Professor or equivalent, or 10 years post clinical degree, with appropriate post medical doctoral training per discipline.
  • Licensed to practice in State of Texas and Board certified (or obtained within departmental timeline).
