Position Overview:
The Chief Advancement Officer for Higher Education reports directly to the President and serves as the primary leader in fundraising initiatives for Sacramento State. This role is pivotal in steering the university's development strategies aimed at enhancing philanthropic contributions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute a comprehensive strategy for fundraising and alumni engagement that aligns with the university's mission and objectives.
- Lead the Division of University Advancement, overseeing areas such as development, annual giving, alumni relations, and stewardship.
- Collaborate with the University Foundation Board and Alumni Board, guiding volunteers and stakeholders in fundraising efforts.
Employment Status: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)
Compensation: Anticipated hiring range is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Work Schedule: Standard hours are Monday to Friday, with flexibility for evenings and weekends as required.

At Sacramento State, our advancement efforts encompass a wide range of philanthropic activities, including cash and in-kind donations, grants, and estate commitments. Our dedicated team collaborates with faculty, alumni, and community partners to support vital initiatives that enhance educational access and innovation.
Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of six to eight years of progressive leadership experience in a comparable role.
- A proven track record in fundraising and donor cultivation.
- Experience managing volunteer boards and principal gift prospects.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strategic and visionary thinking with a proactive approach.
- Ability to foster partnerships across departments and the community.
- Strong knowledge of fundraising principles and practices.
- Exceptional leadership and management capabilities.
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
