Job Title: Reserve Deputy

Join the Johnson County Sheriff's Office as a Reserve Deputy and contribute to maintaining public safety in our community.

Job Summary

We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to serve as Reserve Deputies. As a Reserve Deputy, you will work under the supervision of full-time deputies to provide law enforcement services and support to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide law enforcement presence at special events, such as festivals and parades.
  • Respond to assignments from dispatch to crime or accident scenes, citizen requests for assistance, or civil disturbance scenes.
  • Assist investigators by providing crime scene security, crowd control, and additional manpower as requested.
  • Direct traffic at accident and disaster scenes, and assist other emergency crew personnel.
  • Supplement and assist full-time jail and patrol division deputies in the completion of their duties.
  • Enter data accurately into county computer systems.
  • Attend scheduled training and meetings.
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Work a minimum of 8 hours per month at the designated place and time.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license, safe driving record, and insurable under County liability coverage.
  • Must reside in Johnson County or within a twenty-mile radius of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.
  • Must become certified by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy as a Reserve Peace Officer per Iowa Code (training is provided in-house).
Working Conditions

Reserve Deputies will work in a variety of settings, including special events, crime scenes, and emergency situations. They must be able to work in unfavorable weather conditions and have the physical ability to perform the duties of the job.

This is a temporary, non-benefited position.
