Volunteer Deputy

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Reserve Deputy to join our team at the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. As a Reserve Deputy, you will play a vital role in providing law enforcement services and supporting our full-time personnel in various capacities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide law enforcement presence at special events, such as festivals, fairs, and parades, to ensure public safety and order.
- Enforce federal, state, and county laws and regulations, and issue citations or make arrests as necessary.
- Assist investigators by providing crime scene security, crowd control, and additional manpower as requested.
- Direct traffic at accident and disaster scenes, and assist other emergency crew personnel.
- Supplement and assist full-time jail and patrol division deputies in the completion of their duties.
- Enter data accurately into county computer systems.
- Attend scheduled training and meetings.
- Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Work a minimum of 8 hours per month at the designated place and time.
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
- Must reside in Johnson County or within a twenty-mile radius of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.
- Must become certified by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy as a Reserve Peace Officer per Iowa Code (training is provided in-house).
As a Reserve Deputy, you will be required to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often in unfavorable weather conditions. You must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, squat, bend, twist, reach, and crawl, and have sufficient personal mobility to complete field work.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands of this position include:
- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, bending, twisting, reaching, and crawling.
- Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to pounds.
This is a temporary, non-benefited position. However, as a Reserve Deputy, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills in law enforcement, and contribute to the safety and well-being of our community.
