MedStar Health is seeking a dedicated Emergency Medical Services Associate to support our team. The ideal candidate will possess an EMT-B certification along with a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
Role Overview:
The Emergency Medical Services Associate will collaborate with the nursing staff in the Emergency Department to deliver essential care to patients experiencing various medical conditions, including non-acute and acute situations.
This role involves performing a range of both invasive and non-invasive procedures under the guidance of nursing and medical personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute invasive and non-invasive tasks such as the insertion of intravenous lines, urinary catheters, and nasogastric tubes, as well as conducting phlebotomy.
- Carry out electrocardiogram (EKG) tests on patients as instructed, ensuring accurate data entry and electrode placement.
- Apply splints and immobilization devices for patients with minor orthopedic injuries, including the application of knee immobilizers and ACE wraps.
- Conduct eye irrigation and visual acuity assessments, reporting findings to the appropriate medical staff.
- Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as feeding, dressing, bathing, and mobility support.
- Monitor vital signs and provide fundamental nursing assistance, which includes responding to patient requests, collecting specimens, and managing patient transport within the facility.
- Aid medical personnel in wound care, including limb immobilization and supply preparation.
- Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) efforts as needed.
- Oversee the inventory and stocking of medical supplies in designated areas.
- May assist in training and orienting EMT-P students as directed.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- May necessitate up to one year of specialized training.
- Successful completion of departmental in-service training within the initial weeks of employment.
- 1 to 3 years of clinical experience in a hospital or EMS setting preferred.
- Current EMT certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of hire.
