Join MedStar Health as an Emergency Medical Services Associate
MedStar Health is seeking an Emergency Medical Services Associate to become a vital part of our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
The Emergency Medical Services Associate will support the nursing staff in the Emergency Department by delivering fundamental nursing care to patients experiencing non-acute, acute, and rapidly evolving medical conditions.
This role involves performing a range of both invasive and non-invasive procedures under the guidance of nursing and medical personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Input patient data into EKG machines, accurately position electrodes, record EKG readings, and transfer data into the hospital's computer system.
- Conduct eye irrigations and visual acuity assessments.
- Measure vital signs and provide essential nursing assistance, which includes:
- Responding to patient call lights.
- Collecting specimens from patients.
- Completing flow, graphic, and Intake and Output (I&O) documentation.
- Transporting patients along with their personal belongings, medical records, and necessary clinical devices (IVs and oxygen) using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds throughout the facility.
- Assist medical personnel with wound care, including immobilizing limbs and preparing necessary supplies.
- Monitor, receive, and replenish equipment and supplies in designated areas.
- May participate in the orientation and training of EMT-P students as directed.
This position may require up to one year of specialized training or technical education. Successful completion of an in-service training program within the initial six weeks of employment is expected. A background of 1 to 3 years in clinical hospital or EMS settings is preferred, with hospital experience being advantageous. Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is required.
