Key Responsibilities

  • Proven experience in estimating for a Heavy Civil Contractor, specifically in bidding for site development projects is essential.
  • Manage the estimation of projects typically valued between $500,000 and $20,000,000, including adjustments for change orders.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of self-performed work, focusing on labor, equipment, and material cost analysis.
  • Demonstrate the ability to solicit, evaluate, and prioritize quotations from materials and subcontractors for managerial assessment.
  • Possess a solid understanding of construction assemblies and all phases of project execution.
  • Generate precise estimates from conceptual and schematic designs.
  • Prepare detailed final contract estimates with accuracy.
  • Evaluate site risks and construction exposures, ensuring these factors are reflected in the estimates.
  • Identify potential constructability challenges during the estimation phase.
  • Propose value-engineering alternatives to optimize project costs.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project or Primavera, Excel, Word, and Adobe applications.
  • Experience with takeoff/modeling software such as Agtek, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, or similar tools is required.
  • Prepare a comprehensive construction handoff package post-award and address field inquiries regarding takeoff and pricing strategies.
  • Familiarity with HCSS or B2W software is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary within designated regions.

Education and Experience:
This role typically requires substantial prior experience as an Estimator. A four-year degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is mandatory. Candidates must be capable of understanding work directives and communicating effectively with management and peers. Experience in estimating grading, utilities, and demolition projects is crucial. Typical projects include site development, industrial and commercial construction, utilities, mining reclamation, and general site work. A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are required.

  • Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a standard work shift of at least eight hours.
  • Occasional requirements to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. frequently and carry up to 15 lbs.
