Fiber Optic Maintenance Trainer

As a Training Specialist Senior with General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), you will play a critical role in enhancing the systems that matter most. Our team is dedicated to delivering complex technical and tactical training to sailors enrolled in courses taught at Surface Combat Systems Training Command-Hampton Roads (SCSTC-HR) in Norfolk, Virginia.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, organize, and conduct training and educational programs for customer personnel in a classroom and lab environment.
- Utilize exceptional customer skills to conduct traditional classroom instruction and support technical and tactical laboratory training.
- Work as a team member to identify learning gaps and train students on the repair and maintenance of organizational level shipboard fiber optic terminations.
- Work as a team member to complete customer deadlines, which may have competing or shifting priorities.
- Provide subject matter expertise in support of curriculum development for SCSTC-HR courses.
- Conduct dynamic assessments of sailors' abilities to comply with technical procedures and provide formal appraisals of performance with recommendations for improvement and methods to maintain technical proficiency.
Seven years of experience as a certified Fiber Optic Technician or as a 2M (Micro-Miniature) technician with a certification in Fiber Optic Termination or Fiber Optic Installation. Candidate must have been a technical manager with responsibility for teaching the applicable system or function task to others in a master level training environment. One year of experience as an instructor in a Navy Training Environment, to include curriculum maintenance, writing learning objectives, preparing test items, evaluating instructional materials, and counseling students on academic learning problems is required. Must be able to support training with extended periods on your feet while instructing. BA/BS (or equivalent experience).
Required Technical Skills: NAVSEA recognized Fiber Optic Certification. Security Clearance Level: SECRET. Required Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication skills and experience as a Navy instructor (NEC A/). Preferred Skills: Master Training/Afloat Training Specialist. Location: Customer Site; SCSTC-HR, Norfolk, VA. US Citizenship Required.
