Overview:

Under the guidance of the Special Education Director, the Specialized Educator is responsible for creating and delivering tailored educational programs to address the distinct requirements of students with disabilities. This role involves evaluating and monitoring student progress in relation to educational goals, adhering to mandated procedures, and serving as the IEP Manager for designated students.

Engagement with educators, families, and other professionals is essential to foster safe, healthy, and supportive educational environments that enhance connections between home, school, and the broader community.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge and application of effective teaching methodologies for students with disabilities.
  • Design and implement instructional strategies for both individual and small group settings that align with the general education curriculum.
  • Organize classroom activities to promote a constructive learning atmosphere.
  • Develop individual education plans in collaboration with parents and IEP team members.
  • Deliver instruction tailored to the objectives outlined in IEPs and treatment plans.
  • Integrate technology into lesson plans to enhance learning experiences.
  • Utilize appropriate curricular modifications and accommodations to support diverse learning needs.
  • Independently create individualized and educationally relevant goals for IEPs across all domains.
  • Contribute to the formulation of individualized behavior and transition plans in accordance with district standards.
  • Implement de-escalation techniques and intervene in challenging behaviors, demonstrating knowledge of behavioral intervention guidelines.
  • Make informed recommendations based on assessment data to evaluate academic proficiency and select suitable curricula.
  • Employ effective techniques to achieve lesson objectives and adjust instructional delivery as necessary.
  • Assist fellow professionals in diagnosing learning disorders and evaluating student progress.
  • Participate in Child Study meetings and complete necessary documentation for central office records.
  • Collaborate as a member of the interdisciplinary assessment team to make informed placement decisions and develop intervention strategies.
  • Compile monthly reports and maintain accurate records of student cases.
  • Analyze data related to school improvement and student outcomes to meet accountability standards.
  • Maintain open communication with administrators, educators, and families to support the health and safety needs of students.
  • Work collaboratively within a professional learning community to address student needs and implement effective practices.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities at the school, district, and organizational levels.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum: Bachelor's Degree and enrollment in a teaching certification program.
  • Preferred: Current teaching certification with a special education endorsement, along with prior experience in an educational setting.

Working Conditions:

This position is conducted in a school environment, which may present varied heating, cooling, and air quality conditions. The role may involve exposure to outdoor elements and interaction with students who may exhibit challenging behaviors. The noise level can fluctuate significantly, and physical engagement with students may be required.
