Job Summary:

The Student Services Coordinator plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing special education programs and services, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. This position requires collaboration with school administrators and leadership teams to drive program development and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Align Decisions with District Mission: Prioritize students' educational needs and make decisions that align with the District's core mission.
  • Supervise Special Education Programs: Oversee special education programs, services, and staff across multiple campuses, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Recruit and Select Staff: Participate in recruiting and selecting qualified special education personnel to support the team.
  • Ensure Program Compliance: Ensure that special education programs and services comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Provide Guidance and Support: Offer guidance to staff and parents on adapting programs to meet students' requirements.
  • Organize Training Sessions: Organize training sessions on curriculum, policies, and student support tools to enhance staff knowledge and skills.
  • Link between School and Community: Act as a link between the school, families, and community resources for student support, ensuring a collaborative approach to student success.
  • Stay Updated on Regulations: Stay current on regulations and best practices in special education to ensure the team is equipped to provide high-quality services.
  • Assume District 504 Liaison Role: Assume the role of district's 504 liaison, providing support and guidance on 504 plans and compliance.
  • Support Program Development: Collaborate with building administrators in program development and staff assessment to drive student success.
  • Experience with MiAccess and Special Education Indicators: Possess experience with MiAccess implementation and understanding of Special Education Indicators.
  • Entry of Special Education Data: Enter special education data into the school system, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Embracing Program Objectives: Embrace program objectives and contribute to SER Metro-Detroit's mission to transform young lives and shape future leaders.
  • Collaboration and Efficiency: Collaborate with the team and complete assigned tasks efficiently, demonstrating a commitment to excellence and student success.

Job Qualifications:

  • Meet Supervisor Eligibility Requirements: Meet supervisor eligibility requirements in Special Education by the State of Michigan.
  • Hold Master's Degree in Special Education: Hold a Master's degree in Special Education with at least 5 years of experience in special education program management.
  • Leadership in Special Education: Demonstrate leadership in special education program management, with a proven track record of driving student success.
  • Prior Administrative or Leadership Background: Prior administrative or leadership background preferred, with experience in online special education services a plus.
  • Understanding and Empathy: Exhibit understanding and empathy towards diverse student needs, with strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of Special Education Regulations: Possess in-depth knowledge of special education regulations and a proven track record in organizing professional development sessions.
  • Self-Driven and Autonomous: Self-driven with the ability to work autonomously and in team settings, with a valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check, including fingerprints.

Physical Demands: This position requires good visual, auditory, and mobility abilities, with regular activities including standing, walking, and operating office equipment. Must be capable of lifting 10 pounds.

Work Environment: Operate in a typical school setting with moderate noise levels and standard office equipment.
