Job Overview

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the comprehensive operations of the facility. This role involves delegating responsibilities to key Managers and Supervisors while managing various functions at the prepared foods site, including maintenance, production, procurement, and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee production processes to ensure cost efficiency and adherence to quality, accuracy, and performance benchmarks.
  • Supervise a team of approximately 30 salaried exempt partners in a facility with over 600 hourly employees.
  • Compile and present operational reports to management, offering insights for enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide managerial guidance on job assignments, scheduling, and staff supervision.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service and maintain strong relationships through timely delivery of high-quality products.
  • Recruit, train, develop, and motivate manufacturing personnel to sustain optimal plant operations.
  • Guarantee compliance with all operational protocols in accordance with company policies and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Exercise decision-making authority and demonstrate the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Assist in setting production and processing objectives for the facility.
  • Collaborate with Facility Manager, Safety Manager, QA Manager, Shift Superintendents, and Production Supervisors to evaluate production schedules and devise cost-effective production strategies.
  • Enforce all safety regulations, including OSHA, FSIS, USDA, and HCAPP standards.
  • In the absence of the Operations Manager, responsibilities will be assumed by the Production Manager and Complex Manager.
Customer Engagement:
  • Internal: Daily interactions with corporate officials, plant management, QA Managers, USDA Inspectors, Safety Managers, and Production Supervisors.
  • External: Regular communication with external agencies, vendors, and other authorities related to all facets of plant management.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with colleagues, managers, and supervisors.
  • Capability to apply practical understanding to guidelines provided in various formats.
  • Familiarity with the budgeting process and collaboration with accounting to ensure cost-effective operations.
Education:

A college degree in a relevant field is preferred; however, substantial related work experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education.

Experience:
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in a poultry processing environment is typically required to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of this position; experience in further processed and prepared foods is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of HCAPP, USDA, OSHA/SAFETY regulations, and other federal and state requirements pertinent to poultry processing operations.
