I. Job Overview
The Senior GL Accountant is tasked with ensuring the precision of ledger account entries and reconciling subsidiary ledgers with the general ledger. This role is pivotal in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring that all financial transactions are recorded appropriately.
Additionally, the Senior GL Accountant will analyze current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to forecast future financial performance.
This position involves compiling financial data to support the Finance team in preparing financial statements and various financial reports for Roberts Hawaii.
II. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of and adhere to all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards.
- Conduct advanced general ledger account reconciliations, verify data accuracy, and identify and rectify errors made by internal and external parties.
- Facilitate timely monthly, quarterly, half-year, and year-end financial closures, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and management of operational accounts.
- Ensure proper monthly reconciliation of various accounts (e.g., investments, marketable securities, notes receivable, notes payable, leases, taxes), addressing any discrepancies.
- Engage in resolving financial accounting issues, such as allocation methodologies or accruals.
- Assist in the implementation and monitoring of operational controls and procedures that impact financial balances to guarantee accurate financial reporting.
- Generate and oversee daily operational cash flows, identifying cash balance needs and transfer requirements to optimize fund utilization.
- Prepare special financial reports as requested by management by gathering, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
- Compile audit work papers for designated responsibilities.
- Support special projects as needed.
III. Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year institution or one to two years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficient in computer usage, adaptable to new technologies, and capable of learning new programs swiftly to enhance productivity.
Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher).
Exceptional communication skills, with strong listening abilities, relationship-building skills, flexibility, effective negotiation skills, and the capacity to handle constructive feedback.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Competence in utilizing and manipulating software programs to create spreadsheets, formulas, charts, and merge data.
IV. Work Environment
This position is based in an air-conditioned office setting, equipped with a desk, chair, computer, and phone, along with general office supplies. The role may involve exposure to potential eye and muscle strain due to prolonged computer use.
Physical requirements include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods, as well as walking, standing, kneeling, bending, pulling, and pushing. Light lifting and carrying of items (up to 40 pounds) may be necessary.
