Pipefitting Specialist Technician

Position Overview:
At SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, the Facilities and Operations (F&O) Division oversees one of the leading scientific establishments on a vast Stanford site, comprising over 150 structures for the Department of Energy. Our mission is to support the Laboratory's scientific objectives by ensuring the safe and efficient engineering, construction, operation, and maintenance of our facilities and infrastructure.
We are currently seeking a skilled Pipefitting Specialist Technician to become an integral part of our Mechanical Utilities Department. This team is responsible for the effective operation and upkeep of all mechanical infrastructure systems, including cooling water systems, underground utilities, and HVAC systems for both office and laboratory environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, repair, and maintain various systems, including water treatment and filtration systems, cooling towers, and domestic water systems.
- Modify and maintain instrumentation for these systems, such as flow meters and temperature gauges.
- Oversee the installation and maintenance of piping for water systems, including low conductivity and de-ionized water systems.
- Ensure the integrity and functionality of all systems.
- Install and maintain fire protection systems, including fire mains and building sprinklers.
- Manage the installation and upkeep of natural gas and processed gas systems.
- Conduct flushing and purging of various systems, including radioactive water systems.
- Maintain water cooling systems for high voltage power supplies and electrical cables.
- Procure materials necessary for various tasks.
- Work with a variety of piping materials and perform necessary welding and soldering tasks.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols.
- Execute welding tasks using various techniques and processes.
- Fabricate pipe supports and ancillary components as required.
- Interpret and apply weld symbols accurately.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in accordance with the Pipefitter specifications.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent vocational training, along with five years of experience in plumbing or pipefitting. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program is preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanics, electronics, and various systems, with the ability to utilize a wide range of tools and equipment.
- Experience in assembling and supporting diverse plumbing systems according to engineering specifications.
- Capability to handle large pipes and work at elevated heights.
- Compliance with building codes and safety standards.
- Proficiency in using plumbing tools, with welding experience considered an asset.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain a commitment to safety and environmental regulations.
Certifications:
- Valid California non-commercial Class C driver's license with a clean driving record.

The expected pay range for this position is competitive and will be determined based on various factors, including qualifications and departmental budget.
