Job Summary

The National Trust for Historic Preservation seeks an experienced and visionary Executive Director to lead the Woodlawn and Pope-Leighey House historic site. As a key member of the National Trust team, the Executive Director will be responsible for implementing a dynamic strategic plan for the site, integrating Justice, Equity, Diversity, Access, and Inclusion (JEDAI) measures, and ensuring the site's financial self-sufficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the site, aligning with the National Trust's vision and goals.
  • Lead the site's JEDAI efforts, ensuring metrics are tracked, targets are reached, and the site is a model for equity and inclusion in historic preservation.
  • Supervise and retain a culturally diverse staff, guiding the development of workplans and workflow.
  • Oversee site operations, including managing staff, site maintenance, security, programming, revenue generation, and fundraising.
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships, ensuring the site's programs and activities serve local needs and promote long-term viability.
  • Collaborate with National Trust headquarters staff, including the Historic Sites Department and other divisions, to ensure alignment with Trust-wide initiatives.
Requirements
  • At least 8 years of professional experience, including 5 years in a leadership capacity, preferably in the nonprofit/public history/cultural heritage/museum/historic sites field.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and business development experience, with the ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across departments, implement processes, and achieve results.
  • Demonstrated commitment to JEDAI and the ability to engage historically underrepresented communities, constituents, and partners.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including issue identification and prioritization.
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
