Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Security Officer to join our team at Trinity Health. As a Security Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Intervene with disorderly individuals, using non-violent crisis intervention techniques to de-escalate situations.
  • Assist nursing staff with clinical ordered patient restraints and management of combative patients.
  • Perform vehicle parking lot patrols, provide security escorts as assigned, and follow procedures relating to parking assignment and institutional policy.
  • Greet, direct, and assist customers, visitors, patients, and colleagues throughout the organization, including emergency room and patrolled areas of the facilities.
  • Assist with wayfinding and guidance as needed to promote our mission philosophy.
  • Foster a positive image by promoting Trinity Health to patient customers by being knowledgeable about centers of excellence, new buildings, mission, accomplishments, policies/procedures, services, leaders, community involvements, and events.
  • Provide information and insight, based on observation and communication, with customers to staff as appropriate relating to security-sensitive issues, awareness of suspicious individuals/activities.
  • Accurately assess and articulate incidents or events that require a security report. Interviews individuals involved and takes photographs as necessary.
  • Respond to panic/security alarms when alerted and provides necessary assistance.
  • Coordinate work activities with co-workers to establish a positive team atmosphere and accomplish departmental objectives.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement in assigned area.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or related field preferred.
  • Six months in a customer service-related role with strong communication and de-escalation skills required.
  • One year of experience as a Police Officer, Public Safety Officer, Corrections, School Security, Hospital Security, Public Act 330 Security Police Officer, Corporate Security, or Military Experience preferred.
  • Valid State of Michigan driver's license at time of hire, and insurable under Trinity Health liability insurance guidelines with an acceptable driving record required.
  • MCOLES certifiable or certified preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification preferred.
  • Certification as a Security Police Officer under Public Act 330 preferred.
Working Conditions

The Security Officer will work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing projects and working well with customers and complaints. The ability to problem-solve and develop constructive/creative alternatives to resolve issues and concerns is essential.

Physical and Mental Demands

The Security Officer will be required to stand and walk (80-95% of time), wear a two-way radio (100% of time), and perform detailed tasks with interruptions (50% of time). The ability to go hands-on with agitated or violent individuals using trained physical techniques is also required.
