Job Summary:
The Risk Manager will assist in the development and implementation of a Qualified Patient Care Assessment Program at Mass Eye and Ear. They will coordinate functions required by the regulations of the Board of Registration in Medicine (BORIM) in the area of risk management.
The Risk Manager will act as a liaison between Mass Eye and Ear and CRICO in all matters relating to malpractice and general liability claim activity involving Mass Eye and Ear and its insured physicians.
They will coordinate mandatory reporting of adverse patient events to outside regulatory agencies.
The Risk Manager will serve as the Organizational Contact person for BORIM's QPSD, DPH (for SREs and Patient Complaints), and CRICO.
They will serve on the Steering Committee for Quality.
The Risk Manager will coordinate RL Risk Safety Event Reporting.
They will assist in the coordination of the activities of the Provider Excellence Group, as outlined in the Algorithm for addressing physician behavior issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assume responsibility for the functions of the Patient Care Assessment (PCA) Coordinator and act as the liaison between the QPSD and Mass Eye and Ear for all regulatory matters.
- Prepare and present reports as required under the Mass Eye and Ear PCA Program to the PCA Committee and Board Quality of Care Committee for submission to the Quality and Patient Safety Division (QPSD) of the BORM.
- Assist in the identification, investigation, and follow-up of adverse patient events and the subsequent preparation and submission of Safety Quality Review reports to the QPSD with resultant follow-up and monitoring of improvement actions.
- Assist in responding to BORM subpoenas and inquiries pertaining to physicians or incidents under investigation.
- Oversee RL safety event reporting, the electronic system for reporting safety events.
- Identify quality and patient safety trends, provide departments/units with reports and trending data, as well as recommendations on strategies for improvement.
- Collaborate with the Patient Care Representative on identifying complaints which may rise to the level of a potential claim or reportable event.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- 5 years of experience in healthcare risk management
- Certified Professional in Hospital Risk Management (CPHRM) is preferred
