Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing advanced accounting support, including the classification and processing of accounting transactions, maintaining and reconciling assigned accounts, and compiling, reviewing, and verifying data to prepare financial and accounting reports.
Primary Duties:
- Prepare and post general ledger journal entries, including month-end and accrual entries, and conduct monthly and quarterly general ledger closings.
- Oversee the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts with the general ledger.
- Maintain comprehensive books and records, assisting in the management of all inter-company affiliates.
- Execute general accounting functions, including reporting activities related to investments and other real estate owned.
- Process payroll following the bi-weekly reports received from the HR Department.
- Support, review, and maintain Fixed Assets, ensuring timely entries.
- Reconcile and resolve discrepancies for the majority of the Bancorp's, Bank's, and subsidiaries' general ledger accounts.
- Analyze monthly general ledger variances.
- Manage leases for leased locations.
- Monitor the FRB account daily and process securities entries into the general ledger.
- Conduct research and resolve accounting-related issues, including Accounting Standard Code research as directed.
- Serve as a backup for reconciling daily customer Repo accounts, FRB, and Correspondent Bank accounts.
- Collect and deliver support for SOX testing annually and assist the Internal Audit department during audits. Update Standard Operating Procedures and policies while overseeing Federal weekly reporting.
- Act as a second-level approver for new vendor Accounts Payable processing.
- Provide backup support for the Accounting Manager as needed and assist in the development of other team members within the accounting department.
Qualifications:
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with general ledger, reconciliation, month-end closing, and general accounting processes involving inter-company and fixed assets.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required; a Master's Degree in Accounting may be considered in lieu of certification.
- Strong understanding of accounting functions.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting systems and proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with PeopleSoft.
- Knowledge of lease accounting.
- Prior experience in banking accounting.
