Position Summary:
The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering is seeking applications for multiple 12-month, time-limited, non-tenure track, full-time positions as an Applied Research Professor, with a focus on Research Engineering within the Florida Applied Research in Engineering (FLARE) Center.
FLARE represents a new initiative within the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, dedicated to proprietary, applied, and classified research endeavors.
This center aims to leverage the extensive talent of faculty and students, guided by a leadership team with substantial industry experience, to innovate the applied research landscape.
We are looking for research engineers to lead strategic, engineering, and research development efforts in one or more of the following key areas: (1) hypersonic aerodynamics, (2) unsteady fluid dynamics with fluid-structure interaction, (3) propulsion systems for hypersonic or in-space applications; or (4) multidisciplinary design and optimization in hypersonics, emphasizing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML).
Consideration will also be given to candidates with expertise in aerospace engineering, material science, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), or computational science, provided they can demonstrate a robust history of applied and classified research and development.
Compensation:
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master's Degree or Ph.D. in relevant disciplines, along with over 10 years of experience in leading complex, multidisciplinary applied and classified research projects.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of shaping research vision, securing funding, and executing large-scale research initiatives (multi-million dollar projects) in collaboration with industry, government, academia, and small business partners.
Due to the nature of the anticipated research, applicants must be U.S. citizens and capable of obtaining and maintaining a United States security clearance.
