Job Summary

The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for developing innovative and technically superior engineering design solutions for various projects. This role requires a strong understanding of design principles, technical expertise, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design (40%)

Deliver high-quality design solutions that meet client expectations
Develop design concepts for parts and assemblies
Create detailed CAD models of parts and assemblies
Develop product documentation that supports high-quality production
Apply DFM, DFA, and DFQ principles

  • Research (15%)

Participate in project research and brainstorming teams
Attend and participate in meetings with clients
Analyze user research inputs and provide insights

  • Continuous Improvement (15%)

Develop expertise in advanced CAD skills
Stay up-to-date with new and evolving technologies
Propose process changes to improve quality, cost, and schedule

  • Quality (10%)

Deliver flawless deliverables to clients
Manage deliverables and timing for self
Ensure products meet Kaleidoscope's standards and international regulations

  • Performance Management (10%)

Review own work and that of peers, as requested
Collaborate with team members to achieve goals

  • Project Management (10%)

Participate in management of scope, schedule, and cost

Qualifications

Education/Experience

Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Design, Drafting, or related field
5-10 years of professional experience in design, drafting, and product development

Skills/Specialized Knowledge/Abilities

Excellent problem-solving skills
Proficient with SolidWorks 3D CAD
Intermediate knowledge in geometric tolerance analysis
Proficient in documentation, dimensioning, and specification writing
Intermediate skills in model shop processes and equipment
Intermediate skills in manufacturing processes and tooling requirements
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Detailed-oriented work style and service
Intermediate ability to work and think methodically and logically
Intermediate ability to prioritize and complete tasks to deliver desired outcomes within allotted time frames
Intermediate ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and clients
Willingness to take direction from others and accept constructive feedback while being adaptable and flexible
Demonstrated ability to write and prepare documents/reports/correspondence/proposals in a concise, logical, grammatically appropriate format
Good communication skills that demonstrate a professional demeanor
Ability to effectively communicate with employees/clients via phone, computer, or in person

Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality

Working Conditions

Tools and Equipment Used

Computer workstation, typical office equipment, laboratory instrument, and measurement equipment
Travel

Occasional:
up to 25% of the time
Physical & Mental Demands

Frequently required to sit at a desk/workstation for long periods
Digital dexterity and hand/eye coordination in operation of office equipment
Moderate lifting and carrying of supplies, equipment, files, etc.
Body motor skills sufficient to enable incumbent to move around the office environment
Ability to analyze unique situations and develop appropriate responses
Environment

Work typically performed in an office, laboratory setting, and prototyping shop with hand tools and small machining equipment.
