We are currently seeking experienced full-time senior commercial building inspectors in the Solano County Area. Ideal candidates will possess the qualifications necessary to conduct technical building inspections and plan examinations to ensure adherence to building codes, regulations, and ordinances. A minimum of five years of industry experience is preferred, and candidates must hold certification through ICC.

Position Summary

The Building Inspector III serves as the advanced journey level position responsible for executing the complete range of assigned duties. Individuals in this role are recognized for their expertise in performing inspections as outlined in the Inspector I and II classifications, conducting architectural plan checks, and enforcing a wide array of codes and regulations.

Supervision

The Building Inspector III operates under general supervision from the Chief Building Inspector/Building Official and/or other designated personnel. This role may also involve providing functional and technical oversight to assigned staff as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Executing a comprehensive range of duties associated with the Building Inspector series, which encompasses both office and field work related to inspections, code enforcement, and permit issuance.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, ordinances, and codes, including but not limited to building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and energy codes, as well as municipal codes to safeguard public health, safety, and welfare.
  • Conducting regular residential and commercial field inspections throughout construction, remodeling, or repair phases to verify compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Interpreting codes and regulations, providing clear explanations of required inspections and construction standards to owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and the public.
  • Issuing stop work orders and correction notices as necessary, and investigating building-related complaints.
  • Reviewing building plans and calculations for compliance with various adopted codes and ensuring structural integrity.
  • Collaborating with architects, engineers, designers, contractors, and homeowners to address deficiencies and resolve jurisdictional issues.
  • Maintaining thorough records and reports of plan reviews and inspections.
  • Coordinating plan check activities with external agencies and departments.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to newly hired inspectors regarding plan review protocols and field inspection practices.
Qualifications

Candidates must:

  • Possess at least five ICC Certifications, with all licenses maintained as a condition of employment.
  • Have a minimum of five years' experience as a building inspector.
  • Hold a valid Class "C" California driver's license.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Work Environment

The role involves a combination of office and outdoor work, with potential exposure to various environmental conditions. The position may require standing, walking, bending, and occasionally lifting objects of varying weights.

Compensation and Benefits

4LEAF anticipates the hourly wage for this position to range between $52 - $70, commensurate with professional certifications, experience, and the nature of public works projects assigned.
