Position Overview: The Manager of Grid Operations is responsible for overseeing the functionality of the integrated transmission system to guarantee that operations are conducted in a secure, dependable, and compliant manner while striving to reduce costs for both customers and the organization. This role involves leading teams tasked with the coordination and communication of scheduled or unexpected equipment outages, system status updates, and unusual occurrences, including the management of system restoration after significant disruptions. The leadership team in Grid Operations is dedicated to developing and implementing effective work practices that promote resource efficiency and facilitate seamless communication and collaboration with other departments to achieve safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction objectives.
The Grid Control Centers monitor real-time operations and collaborate closely with the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) to uphold system reliability, which includes voltage monitoring, switching action coordination, and emergency response preparation. Leaders in this role foster an environment that prioritizes safe, reliable, compliant, and incident-free management of the Bulk Electric System (BES), while also encouraging employees to take accountability for safety.
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Director of Transmission Grid Operations within Electric System Operations.
Compensation: The salary range provided reflects the company's good faith estimate for this position. Actual compensation will be determined based on various factors including skills, education, experience, and geographic location. The estimated salary range is as follows:
- Minimum Base Salary: $151,000.00
- Mid Base Salary: $204,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary: $257,000.00
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and schedule work on the transmission system to ensure reliability, including the effective operation and staffing of multiple control centers.
- Manage the transmission system operations reliably and provide emergency response for all transmission-related events.
- Coordinate clearances for the transmission system, collaborating with CAISO for both short-term and long-term electric transmission needs.
- Assist in developing departmental budgets and manage expenditures to align with budgetary targets.
- Implement actions that enhance system reliability and meet emergency response expectations.
- Address customer concerns effectively to ensure satisfaction.
- Maintain regular communication and partnerships with construction departments, distribution centers, engineering, and planning support, as well as transmission customers and regulatory agencies.
- Build relationships with industry leaders and organizations.
- Ensure that all technical and mandatory training/certification is completed and documented, ensuring employee competency.
- Supervise a team of supervisors and manage approximately 75 indirect staff members.
- Drive results through effective recruitment, training, performance management, and recognition.
- Ensure compliance with NERC certification requirements for operating the BES.
- Maintain a state of readiness for audits to ensure compliance with NERC reliability standards.
- Collaborate closely with CAISO to ensure alignment with reliability standards.
- Contribute to the overall emergency response plan to maintain transmission system operations and reliability.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 8+ years of experience in electric operations (or equivalent) with 5+ years in a supervisory role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- NERC Reliability Coordination Certification.
- Completion of System Operator Training.
- Experience with union-represented employees.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication abilities.
- Knowledge of industry best practices and safety protocols.
