Overview
This position operates in a hybrid environment, requiring regular engagement both within the office and remotely.

The Senior Commercial Underwriter spearheads underwriting initiatives by managing commercial portfolios with a high degree of expertise and complexity. This role provides critical support to the commercial lending team, offering insights into structuring, analysis, and credit documentation for commercial credit activities. The underwriter assesses the viability of repayment sources and prepares comprehensive credit approval memorandums. Additionally, they identify, collect, and evaluate financial data to determine credit ratings and suitable loan structuring. Risks are assessed and communicated to bolster departmental risk mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities
Underwriting: Directs the underwriting of commercial credit activities in accordance with relevant regulations, procedures, and guidelines. Engages directly with clients to gather necessary information throughout the approval process and to evaluate repayment viability. Reviews financial statements, interacts with clients or prospects, and conducts analyses to recommend credit ratings, covenants, and appropriate loan structuring. Ensures all stakeholders are informed of underwriting progress and outcomes, providing leadership in daily operations through underwriting production and credit analysis expertise.

Risk Management: Identifies potential risks through comprehensive reviews, analyses, and research of both new and existing commercial loans. Collaborates closely with bank associates and partners to address risk issues, maintaining communication regarding review schedules and potential changes within the commercial portfolio. Aids in coordinating review and renewal timelines for existing credits, facilitating ongoing risk identification and management. May contribute to the development of strategies aimed at managing risk within the credit portfolio.

Analysis: Sources, compiles, and interprets financial data to support the structuring and approval of loans. Reviews industry information and comparisons, key risks and mitigants, and collateral to form a comprehensive business overview of the borrower. Utilizes analytical results to underwrite complex commercial loans.

Business Support: May assist in identifying cross-sales opportunities for both new and existing relationships based on analytical activities. Gathers servicing information and prepares credit analysis documentation. Collaborates with associates and clients to ascertain needs and structure new requests, participating in client and prospect discussions as necessary. Supports management in peer development and training.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 6 years of experience in Underwriting C&I and Medical, Commercial Credit Analysis, Lending, Financial Statement Spreading, Preparation of Projections, and Trailing Twelve Month Analysis.
OR
High School Diploma or GED with at least 10 years of experience in Underwriting in C&I and Medical, Commercial Credit Analysis, Lending, Financial Statement Spreading, Preparation of Projections, and Trailing Twelve Month Analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing credit relationships of $5 million and above.
Experience leading special projects to enhance commercial lending activities and service capabilities, acting in a leadership capacity to less experienced underwriters within the team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
