Commercial Lines Underwriter Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our team at The Cincinnati Insurance Companies. As a key member of our Commercial Lines Key Accounts department, you will be responsible for actively engaging with agents and brokers to manage a book of new and renewal business in the assigned multi-state territory.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with construction industry professionals to discuss issues and their potential impact on the insurance industry
  • Proactively engage in accounts in the assigned territory and work with management to strategically grow within the territory through field marketing reps
  • Strategically engage with partner agents to drive revenue with Key Account size business by promoting our company's products and services
  • Evaluate and document contractor exposures and controls, analyze actuarial loss models using a layered and excess loss approach
  • Price business to achieve positive returns within the framework of the organization's risk appetite
  • Effectively negotiate renewals to achieve business unit goals, including rate/retention dynamics and policy terms and conditions
  • Develop and execute stewardship service plans addressing claims, loss control, and RMIS service needs
  • Understand the agency planning process and impact of contingency/supplemental commission arrangements
  • Collaborate with and mentor less experienced underwriters
Requirements:
  • Five years of underwriting experience, preferably with a focus on the construction sector
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building abilities
  • Working knowledge of large account marketing and underwriting, including awareness of loss sensitive programs, familiarity with collateral concepts, wrap-ups, and other contractor-specific coverage
  • Analytical and critical-thinking skills
  • Understanding of portfolio management and ability to balance growth and profit dynamics to achieve company targets
  • Self-starter with creative thinking and ability to create opportunity
  • Willingness to travel
